Meghan Trainor Inks Cross-Platform Overall Deal at NBCUniversal

Meghan Trainor is breaking some new ground for NBCUniversal.

The Grammy-winning singer has signed a cross-platform overall deal with NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. The pact is the first of its kind for the company and will cover both scripted and unscripted projects across NBCU’s portfolio, including NBC, Peacock and cable networks USA, Bravo, E!, Syfy, Oxygen and Universal Kids.

The first project under the deal is a comedy series in development at NBC.

“In addition to being a phenomenally talented performer, Meghan is a vibrant and hilarious ray of light who is the perfect fit for NBC’s brand,” said Susan Rovner, chairman entertainment content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “We love the idea of introducing Meghan into the world of scripted comedy as well as working with her to find all the creative and crazy ways she can engage with fans across our brands. With eight distinct platforms, we’re able to provide the ultimate playground for multihyphenate artists, and this is just one of the ways we’re leveraging our new structure to benefit both talent and audiences.”

Said Trainor, “This collaboration with NBCUniversal is so beyond a dream come true. I’m obsessed with and inspired by Susan and can’t wait to work with her and her incredibly talented team to bring our ideas to life.”

The deal represents a possible look at the future under Rovner’s recently realigned unit. The former Warner Bros. TV head joined NBCU in October 2020 with a mandate to reorganize the company’s entertainment business by type of programming (scripted, alternative and late night) rather than by network, as was the case in the past.
