Nikki Bella is finally providing a window into what caused her to break off her engagement to John Cena.
The WWE star says she began to feel differently about her relationship with her fellow wrestler as they neared their wedding day.
“A lot of us that go through the wedding planning process … are forced to face all these issues that we have just hiding deep down inside,” Bella said Wednesday on “Today with Kathie Lee & Hoda.”
“I just know that a healthy me would be a healthy us. I do have hope for a future, but I know right now I need to work on me.”
Bella, 34, has said multiple times this week that she’s not ruling out getting back together with Cena, 41, but she’s not ready to jump right back into a relationship with him mere weeks after their split.
The duo broke up in mid-April, less than a month before their scheduled wedding date of May 5.
“Before I do say those vows and walk down that aisle, I just don’t want to be hesitant. I don’t want to be regretful,” Bella told the morning show’s hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb.
