Marvel Theory: Will Nick Fury Be Working For S.W.O.R.D. In Phase 4?
The days of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be well behind Nick Fury in Marvel’s Phase 4!
Samuel L. Jackson’s iconic Nick Fury has been an integral character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since he made his first incredibly impactful appearance in the post-credits scene of the first movie in the franchise – 2008’s Iron Man – when he first brought up the “Avenger Initiative” to a shocked Tony Stark.
He’s kind of been the glue that’s held the franchise together since then – bringing the Avengers together as a team and forming the connective tissue between every movie from 2010’s Iron Man 2 and 2012’s The Avengers to 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the upcoming Captain Marvel.
But the organisation he worked for for so long – S.H.I.E.L.D. – is no more in the franchise (at least as far as the movies are concerned (we know it still fronts an MCU television series) and Fury has sort of been in limbo as a result, seemingly working alongside the likes of Maria Hilla and Cameron Klein for nobody in particular.
But that could all change going forward, as there’s a theory suggesting Jackson’s character could be working for S.W.O.R.D. – which stands for the Sentient World Observation and Response Department and is the cosmic counterpart to S.H.I.E.L.D., protecting the world against threats from space – and we’ll be discussing why that theory exists in this video.
