Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment Inks First-Look TV Deal With Amazon

Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment is putting down roots at Amazon.

The 6-year-old company behind such projects as I, Tonya; Birds of Prey; and Hulu’s Dollface has inked a first-look television deal with the streaming service. The news comes as the company, previously housed at Warner Bros., is already in production on TV series elsewhere, including Netflix’s Margaret Qualley-fronted dramedy Maid and the second season of feminist comedy Dollface.

“We are so thrilled to be partnering with Amazon Studios to bring original content to the ever-burgeoning television landscape. Our hope with LuckyChap has always been to challenge narrative conformity whilst offering a platform to exciting and often overlooked voices,” said company leaders Robbie, Tom Acklerly and Josey McNamara in a joint statement. “In Amazon we have a cultural partner who shares our passion for storytelling and through its global reach allows us and our collaborators to reach as many viewers as possible. This is the start of a very exciting journey for the company and one that we are incredibly proud to be taking with the wonderful Amazon team.”

Added Amazon Studios’ co-head of TV Albert Cheng: “LuckyChap has produced sharply original, smart, and wholly engaging content over the past several years, across an incredible range of genres, and centering multifaceted, unique female characters. We’ve very excited for the chance to work with Tom, Josey, Margot and Brett to create new series with the same kind of vision and focus for our Prime Video customers.”

At Amazon, LuckyChap joins a lengthy if curated roster of top talent with deals at the streamer. Nicole Kidman, Michael B. Jordan and Jordan Peele are among the buzzier names that Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke has successfully courted.
