SAG Awards 2022: ‘CODA’ Wins Top Film Honors, ‘Squid Game’ Wins Big for TV

The 2022 SAG Awards took place on Sunday, where “CODA” won the top prize in the film categories in a landmark for deaf performers.

In the film categories, the deaf cast of “CODA” won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Motion Picture. Will Smith won the lead actor prize for “King Richard,” Jessica Chastain won the leading actress prize for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” Ariana DeBose won in the female supporting role category for her work in “West Side Story,” and Troy Kotsur became the first deaf actor to win a SAG Award for his work in “CODA.”

“Ted Lasso” and “Succession” won the outstanding ensemble prizes for a comedy and drama series respectively in the TV races, while the two stars of “Squid Game,” Jung Ho-yeon and Lee Jung-jae both won in the acting categories for a drama series. Jason Sudeikis and Jean Smart also won in lead actor TV categories for a comedy series.

The show didn’t have a host for the third year in a row. However, “Hamilton” stars Lin-Manuel Miranda, Daveed Diggs and Leslie Odom Jr. opened the ceremony.

This year’s presenters include Benedict Cumberbatch, Jessica Chastain, Cate Blanchett, Lady Gaga, Jung Ho-Yeon, Martin Short, Oscar Isaac, Salma Hayek Pinault, Selena Gomez, Reese Witherspoon, Hailee Steinfeld, Jeff Goldblum, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Aunjanue Ellis and more. As previously announced, Alexandria Daddario, Vanessa Hudgens, Rosario Dawson and Ross Butler will also present, with Kate Winslet presenting the 57th SAG Lifetime Achievement Award to Helen Mirren.
