JANE THE VIRGIN actress Gina Rodriguez, set to star in and produce a new romantic comedy for NETFLIX.
Titled SOMEONE GREAT, the film follows a young woman looking to bounce back from a break-up with her two best friends in New York. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is slated to begin production this April.

Today, a look at the nominees for Best Actress. Meryl Streep has already won 3 Oscars and this year she picked up a record 21st nomination for portraying Washington Post Publisher Kay Graham in the drama THE POST.
The rest of the ballot includes Sersha Ronan for her part in LADY BIRD, Sally Hawkins in THE SHAPE OF WATER, and Margot Robbie for her role in I, TONYA. Then there’s Frances McDormand, a previous Oscar winner, up this time for playing the mother of a murdered teen in THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI. She says her biggest challenge was finding some humor in the intense drama.

Today we turn the spotlight on the nominees for Best Actor. Daniel Day-Lewis has already won three Academy Awards and this year he’s in the running once again for his part as a dressmaker in the film PHANTOM THREAD.
The rest of the field includes Daniel Kaluuya (kah-LOO-yah) for his role in GET OUT, two-time winner Denzel Washington in ROMAN J. ISRAEL, ESQUIRE, and Timothee Chalamet (Timothy Shal-uh-may) for his part in CALL ME BY YOUR NAME. But the clear frontrunner here is Gary Oldman, nominated for playing Winston Churchill in the biopic DARKEST HOUR.

The race for Best Picture seems wide open with nine strong contenders including DUNKIRK, GET OUT, CALL ME BY YOUR NAME, LADY BIRD, PHANTOM THREAD, THE POST, and DARKEST HOUR.

Director Glenn Weiss is back for his third time to helm the big broadcast and of course still remembering last year’s historical mix-up with the Best Picture envelope.
He told Ross Crystal one of the things he’s learned in his many years calling the shots in the control booth is to expect the unexpected.
