ABC is giving some of its top unscripted hits a moment in the sun.
The network has handed out early renewals for The Bachelor, Dancing With the Stars, America’s Funniest Home Videos and the Fred Savage-hosted Child Support. The pickups come as ABC typically waits until May to hand out additional season renewals for all of its fare.
The Bachelor will return for a 23rd season after its most recent cycle averaged a 2.2 rating among the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic and 7.4 million viewers. The March 5 finale topped NBC powerhouse The Voice in the demo and helped ABC to win the night. Chris Harrison will return as host of the Warner Horizon series from Mike Fleiss.
Dancing With the Stars will return for a 27th season, with the renewal coming ahead of its forthcoming 26th season — which will feature all athletes. The renewal was expected after ABC tapped Andrew Llinares as the franchise’s new showrunner. Hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews will return for the BBC Worldwide Productions series. Its 25th season wrapped with an average of 1.6 in the demo and 10.7 million viewers.
America’s Funniest Home Videos, returning for its 29th season, further cementing the franchise as ABC’s longest-running primetime entertainment show in history. Hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro, the series pulls a respectable 1.1 among adults 18-49 and 5.5 million viewers with three days of delayed viewing.
