Polar Vortex Shuts Down Production On ‘Chicago P.D.’, ‘Empire’ & ‘Proven Innocent’

NBC’s Chicago P.D halted production for today and tomorrow due to the polar vortexthat has dropped temperatures well below zero over a wide swath of the country. Current temperature in Chicago is -10 with a wind chill of -34. NBC says sister shows Chicago Fire and Chicago Med are able to continue working as they are filming inside on stages. The network says it is planning to resume production on Chicago P.D.Friday, but will continue to monitor the weather and adjust accordingly.

As we previously reported, 20th Century Fox shut down production on both Chicago-set Empire and legal drama Proven Innocent. The Empire shutdown occurs as cast, creators and producers are still trying to process the horrific attack on star Jussie Smollett, who plays Jamal Lyon, early Tuesday, which police are investigating as a possible hate crime. As Dominic Patten reported, depending on his recovery and weather conditions, Smollett could be back filming Empire by early next week.
