Jon Stewart & Steve Carell Team for Political Satire ‘Irresistible’

Jon Stewart, the former host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, is once again stepping behind the camera for a feature project.

Stewart will direct Irresistible, a political satire based on his original idea, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Steve Carell is in early talks to star in the film.

Plan B, the Brad Pitt-led production banner behind the upcoming dramas Beautiful Boy and If Beale Street Could Talk, will produce with Stewart.

Plot details are under wraps, but the film is in Stewart’s wheelhouse of politics, which made him one of the top hosts in late-night television. Even Stewart’s first directorial effort, 2014’s Rosewater, involved politics, although from a dramatic point of view rather than comedy.

The project is in the process of securing financing. Carell’s involvement is dependent on scheduling, among other points that need to be ironed out.
