HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Takes Top Drama Honors While Amazon’s & Best Comedy ‘Fleabag’ Nabs Four Wins

HBO took the top drama honor for Game of Thrones, while Amazon’s Fleabag triumphed in the top comedy category at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night.

HBO collected 9 honors in the televised ceremony, including for Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage in the supporting actor category and Bill Hader in the lead actor category. HBO’s Chernobyl nabbed three wins for writing, directing and for limited series and Last Week Tonight won variety talk show and writing for a variety series.

Amazon’s Fleabag nabbed four wins: for comedy series, for Phoebe Waller-Bridge as lead actress in a comedy series and writing in a comedy series and Harry Bradbeer for directing in a comedy series. Tony Shalhoub and Alex Borstein won in the comedy supporting actor and actress categories for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Ahead of the primetime honors, HBO led the way, picking up 25 wins at the Creative Arts Emmys held on Sept. 14-15, including 10 wins for Game of Thrones in categories like score, title design and stunt coordination as well as a seventh honor for special visual effects.

The host-less honors was held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, airing on Fox.
