Democratic National Convention To Again Feature Celebrity Hosts

The Democratic National Convention will again feature celebrity hosts each night, taking a page from the all-virtual event held in 2020.

Tony Goldwyn will host on Monday night, Ana Navarro on Tuesday, Mindy Kaling on Wednesday and Kerry Washington on Thursday, according to a convention official.

Washington was part of the lineup of hosts in 2020, when an in-person event was canceled due to the Covid pandemic. Stephanie Cutter and Ricky Kirshner, who produced that convention, have returned this year.

The convention also will borrow some elements from the virtual roll call of 2020, as some delegations went viral for their creativity in showcasing their states. The roll call will take place on Tuesday, and it will be ceremonial, as Kamala Harris already has been confirmed as the Democratic nominee in a virtual delegate vote earlier this month. The buzz is that at Tuesday’s event, it will be California, her home state, that puts her over the top. The Golden State’s delegates are being seated right up in the front rows, per the staging set up on Sunday. (Among the states seated far back from the stage: Florida).

Other celebrities expected at various events tied to the convention include John Legend, Octavia Spencer and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. CNN first reported on the host lineup.

President Joe Biden is scheduled to speak on Monday evening, with an expected appearance by Harris.

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff and Barack and Michelle Obama are expected on Tuesday.
