Amy Schumer was among the throng of people on Thursday in Washington, D.C., who were protesting the possible appointment of the Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
In a video sent to the daughter of one person she was protesting with, the actress and relative of Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said, “I think we’re going to get arrested.” MSNBC showed an image of Schumer being detained.
Reporters on the scene at the Hart Senate office building said Schumer was being detained.
Model Emily Ratajkowski says she was also arrested. “Today I was arrested protesting the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh, a man who has been accused by multiple women of sexual assault. Men who hurt women can no longer be placed in positions of power,” she said via Twitter. It is unclear if Ratajkowski was arrested or merely detained.
On Thursday, senators received a report from the FBI, which looked into allegations made against Kavanaugh over claims of sexual assault and abusing alcohol. Republican senators said the report — which would not be released to the public — was thorough and proved no wrongdoing. Democrats said the report was rushed and poorly done, leaving more questions than answers.
Previously, the Senate Judiciary Committee heard emotional testimony from California professor Christine Blasey Ford, who accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault. He has been accused by other women. Kavanaugh had his chance to speak before the committee and denied all allegations. The hearing was contentious and volatile, with more than one person raising their voice, or, in the case of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), outright screaming.
A vote to confirm the highly controversial Trump pick to the Supreme Court is set to be held Saturday.
